We have an eye for an eye sense of justice. It says, “If you do something to me, I do the same thing back to you.” Whether we call it revenge, retribution, punishment, or tit-for-tat, we all share the feeling that if we are wronged it has to be made right by the equal suffering of the person who wronged us. Is this what justice should be for followers of Jesus? What is his ethic for punishment and retaliation?
