Providing clothes for kids and students in need.

When a child is taken out of their home and placed in foster care it is often with nothing but the clothes on their backs. And while foster families are provided funds for the children in their care, the reality is that those funds are often late and don’t go very far. As a result, children in foster care regularly end up with whatever second hand clothes are affordable and available.

There are also children that suffer from being materially poor. Some families have children in need of clothing because of poverty, job loss, or other difficult circumstances.

Additionally, there are young men and women who have aged out of foster care, losing all the structural and family support the system has offered them. For young adults like this, attending college while being able to support themselves can be a real challenge.

Compass Closet is a place where foster families in the McLean County area can come and get new clothes for their children, and where college students who have aged out of the system can find support. Through the donation of brand new clothes, partnerships with local businesses, and financial support, we are able to stock a closet of new clothing necessities for children and young adults of all ages.

All clothes are available for free or by donation, depending on each family’s need. Our heart is that no family leave empty handed if they have children who need clothes.
