Your Challenges Are Not Hopeless

by

I recently went on a 30 mile bike ride… no joke, 30 miles! I’m not a biker, I’m a runner, so 30 miles seemed like it was an eternal challenge. It was exhausting, painful and after every mile I felt like turning around and calling it quits.

There was no way I could handle another mile. Physically my body was giving up, but mentally I couldn’t let myself quit. It was a challenge, and I had to stand up to it.

The fact of the matter is, life is challenging, and we face challenges we don’t think we can handle. We say to ourselves “God won’t give me more than I can handle, right?”

Is that right?

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
1 Corinthians 10:13

If we were able to handle everything on our own, why would we need God? Sometimes God will give us more than we can handle, and when that happens – when we do feel like we can’t get through it alone – we have the amazing opportunity to turn to God and lean on His strength to pull us through. God will, and does, put us through trials in life so we can draw closer to him.

When Jesus knew the time was close for him to die on the cross, he cried out to his Father and said that his soul was overwhelmed. Even Jesus felt like he couldn’t handle something in life! In his humanity, it felt impossible but he drew close to his Father and He gave him strength to carry out His will.

There is rest in knowing that Jesus has felt our struggles before. He has felt the overwhelming impossible feelings we face in life. Yet, he made the ultimate sacrifice so that when we have these feelings we too can carry out God’s will with His help.
